              These photographs depict the interiors of churches that, although still consecrated, have largely fallen into disuse. In most cases the reason they are little-used is that the communities they served have moved away. They are all now in the care of the Churches Conservation Trust.

              They are wonderfully photogenic subjects. The rendering of light, space, tones and textures – in short the aesthetic qualities of the prints - that result purely from the application of the laws of physics and chemistry are, I think, astonishing. Of all my work, they have most need to be seen as silver-gelatin prints rather than images on he screen.
